Which Colleges Are Participating
All 58 North Carolina community colleges waive fees automatically for this week — most already charge little or nothing.
On the four-year side, 43 colleges and universities are participating for Fall 2026, based on CFNC’s official list.
Highlights include East Carolina University, Appalachian State, NC A&T, NC Central, Western Carolina, Elon, High Point, Davidson, Fayetteville State, and Winston-Salem State.

NC College Connect: Automatic Admission Option
Some students won’t need a traditional application at all this fall.
NC College Connect offers direct admission to eligible North Carolina public high school seniors, with no essay, no recommendation letters, and no activity list required.
To qualify, you need a weighted GPA of 2.8 or higher and specific coursework: four English courses, four math courses, three science courses, two social studies courses (one must be American History), and two more core, world language, or computer science courses.
Students must also answer standard institutional safety questions covering high school conduct and any prior misconduct.
All 58 community colleges, 29 independent colleges, and 11 UNC System institutions currently participate in NC College Connect.
